Avatar V.S Pocahontas Essay - 681 Words
ââ¬Å"I was a warrior that dreamed he could bring peace, sooner or later, though, you always have to wake up,â⬠(Cameron, 2009). When comparing James Cameronââ¬â¢s Avatar with Walt Disneyââ¬â¢s Pocahontas, you may find several similarities in the movies; but donââ¬â¢t be fooled, because it is the differences of these two movies that sets them so widely apart, rather than the similarities that supposedly bring them together. Many people seem to have the opinion that Avatar is just a futuristic, visually stunning version of Walt Disneyââ¬â¢s Pocahontas but in reality, they are nothing alike as they have two entirely different themes. The themes expressed throughout the movies arenââ¬â¢t the only thing that separates them; the plots are also much unrelated. In the end, Mother Nature does end up taking a stand and fighting for the preservation of life. Issues like corporations destroying nature for profit, the lack of respect for living creatures, and the failed policies of military diplomacy that the USA continues to pursue are just a few of the other themes behind Avatar. It would be ridiculous to say that the deep, meaningful themes from Avatar are just a copy of the weak, childish message from Pocahontas. I find that the only item that brings Pocahontas and Avatar somewhat together is the fact that the plots of the stories are somewhat similar. Humans invade the ââ¬Å"new worldâ⬠in both stories, and the entire plot in both stories is generally based upon the humans fighting to take what they want, and the natives, or the Naââ¬â¢vi, fighting to preserve it. ââ¬Å"We will fight terror with terror,â⬠(Cameron, 2009).
